LoLaLovesBooks is in :D
As many of you loyal blog followers may have noticed, I don’t particularly care to deal with “star ratings.” When I read a book, my overall objective is to be entertained for a few hours, days or even a month – it all depends on how large the book is and how much time I can gift myself with each day. What I may deem a five star, you may deem a three star; therefore, I have chucked the star rating scale off my high horse! My intent here is to give you a brief accounting of what the book entails without giving away every friggin’ detail of the book because nothing is worse than reading a review that spills the beans and is full of negativity. Those reviews/reviewers are the ones I’d love to strangle … if you want to rip something apart to make yourself look smarter, etc., become an editor or write your own damned book! Again, my goal is to have a few hours of escape and convey to you what the basics are about the book, what I especially liked about the book, maybe a favorite quote, etc., but never to rip apart an author and their hard work. So, now let’s move on...

Author - Keith Melton
Length - Novel
Business has never been better for hit man Karl Vance. Boston is awash in mafia blood, and Vance has a certain fondness for blood. He’s a master vampire—one of the most powerful of his kind. Having sworn to never again feed on the blood of innocents, Karl preys instead on Boston’s criminal underworld. Which makes him a valuable asset to those who deal in death.
Maria Ricardi intends to use that asset to its full extent in order to gain power within her patriarchal crime family. Vance thinks he’s been hired to keep track of the family’s princess, but she’s got a plan to get her hands dirty and earn the respect she deserves. And she’s not above using their instant attraction to get what she wants.
That driving ambition draws the attention of a rival clan’s newest and most dangerous “consultant.” Alejandro Delgado, Vance’s centuries-old nemesis. Delgado zeroes in on the one chink in Vance’s armor—his fondness for the headstrong Maria.
When she becomes enslaved by Delgado’s unnatural kiss, only one thing is certain. Vance has to decide which he wants more. To settle the score—or rescue her soul.

REVIEW -
As if being a vampire isn’t difficult enough, try being a vampire hit man for hire. Want to take it up a notch or two? Throw the mob boss’ feisty daughter into the mix! That’s exactly what Keith Melton has done in Blood Vice.
A gripping story about Karl Vance, vampire hit man for hire, and how he has entangled himself with the mafia while also attempting to rid the world of his longtime nemesis, Delgado. In the midst of a mafia war including several cities, Maria, the boss’ daughter, wants in on the action at a higher rung on the proverbial mafia ladder … action felt to be better suited to “made” men and a damned near unreachable achievement for her. Seemingly loner by nature Karl swears allegiance to no one, but when in the blink of an eye Maria finds herself face-to-face with a set of foul fangs, circumstances change and Karl will stop at nothing to save her from Delgado’s evil grip.
Keith has a very fluid writing style, which I found quite refreshing; there’s nothing worse than having to re-read a sentence or paragraph that left you confused. A real nice touch to this novel is chapter titles; I’m not sure if it is just the genre or authors I have been reading lately, but I loved the presence of chapter titles! Sometimes the smallest things can excite me Keith has done an astounding job in applying just the right amount of ingredients for background, character, mafia technicalities, weaponry, romantic tension and humor. Speaking of ingredients, please be sure to watch out for Keith’s upcoming release of 1001 Ways to Burn Toast! Seriously, though, as soon as I finished Blood Vice, I immediately latched on to Ghost Soldiers (review coming soon)! If you end up loving this series as much as I do, you’ll be excited to know that he is currently working on the third book of the Nightfall Syndicate – can I get a “hell, yeah?” HELL, YEAH!
