Interview with Debra Kayn + Giveaway

Rodeo Rebel I am happy to have Debra Kayn here today with us celebrating her newest release Rodeo Rebel that just released on June 14, 2012 from Entangled Press. Debra has been so kind to do an interview for us AND offer up an ebook copy of this new release to one lucky commenter.

Welcome Debra!!

Thank you so much for inviting me to your blog! It’s been a whirlwind of fun promoting Rodeo Rebel, and meeting new readers.

1. Can you please share with us a little about yourself?

I live in the beautiful coastal mountains of Oregon. I’m married to the man I met on a blind date when I was 19. We have four kids ranging in age from 16 to 22. During the summer, I love to ride motorcycles, play tennis, and go fishing on our creek. In the winter, it’s all about being outside. I love the snow and cold. I’m a huge animal lover, and there is always a dog or two under my desk, and chickens standing at the front door looking for any scrap I can toss their way.

I love soft caramel squares. I buy too many boots. And, I own a pink sparkly fishing pole that lights up when I reel in a fish.

Oh! And, I’m famous in my family for teaching a 270 lb pig named Harley to jog with me every morning.

2. I see you ride motorcycles, what kind of bike do you own and do you have any fun stories you’d like to share?

We put our place up for sale, and are prepping for a cross country move, so the street bike was sold. *sniff* But, we’re also big dirt bike and quad riders in this family. So, I’m keeping busing riding my favorite toy a Suzuki 400 4 wd quad. My hubs is already planning on replacing the street bike once we move, because we’ll be one state away from Sturgis. Going to Sturgis is on my bucket list!
* Sturgis is on my bucket list as well!!

 3. How did you get into writing in this specific genre? Have you ever thought about writing in a different genre?

I love everything contemporary. The stories, the characters, the setting, all feel real and it’s so easy to slip into the story and imagine I’m there. I’ve dabbled in writing other genres, but have always come back to contemporary. Nothing beats a story that you can imagine happening in real life.

4. Do you have any writing rituals?

Wasabi peas are a must have while writing. Since you can’t eat too many without burning your mouth, it helps me from overindulging on…say, m&m’s. lol I also pick times when everyone is home to write. I love background noise. The more chaos, the better! If I write in silence or without interruptions, I usually end up staring at the screen...or babbling on Twitter and Facebook.

5. Tell us about your latest book and it’s series.

I would love to! The Sisters of McDougal Ranch series is about 5 sisters who were raised by their successful rancher father. Wild and unconventional, each sister has her own book. During the first couple books tragedy strikes on the ranch and chances everyone’s lives. Readers get to see how they survive and move on, each sister finding her happily ever after.
In Rodeo Rebel, the 4th book of the series, Florentine comes home to the McDougal ranch for her sister's wedding, bringing along her sexy sponsor and his little girl, it'll take some sass and butt kickin' to convince Cole she's not a high risk and to take a chance on love. She's already fallen in love with his rambunctious daughter, now she has to convince Cole she loves him too.

It’s not necessary to read the whole series, unless you want to. Rodeo Rebel can be read as a stand-a-lone.

Rodeo Rebel
Here’s the official blurb for Rodeo Rebel…

Blurb

When widower and land baron Cole Reardon acquired the Turner Grain Corporation, he didn't know the company sponsored a bull rider. He refuses to support thrill-seekers dumb enough to get on the back of a crazed animal. He’s not willing to risk his fortune and livelihood when he has his daughter's well-being to consider. Not even when the bull rider is the sexiest woman he's ever seen.

Bull rider Florentine McDougal plans to turn pro after the season championship, fulfilling her lifelong dream of succeeding in a man’s world. That is, until Cole Reardon shows up and threatens to break his sponsorship contract with her. Now everything she’s worked for is less than eight seconds away from being destroyed.

Cole distracts Florentine with his sexy mouth and unreasonable demands, and he's not going to compromise his integrity. But she's not going to let him loose until she has pro status. And neither will come away from this dust-up unscathed.

It’s available at Barnes & Noble and Amazon.

6. Which of your heroes was hardest to write and which was easiest? Do you have any soft spots for any particular characters?

Florentine is a twin to her sister Chantilly. Because they look exactly alike, I had to find ways to make them different. That was the hardest, so I had to look at my own sons, who are also twins. Then I aimed at making their personalities different. I gave Florentine a smart mouth because living and working with cowboys, she’d need to be extra strong.

The easiest was Sarah, Cole’s seven year old daughter. I have four kids of my own, and I was a tomboy growing up, so she was so fun to write. Seeing as how Cole is an overprotective dad, I had to come up with some rather wild ways to have Sarah push his buttons. Cole is so amusing when he gets riled!

7. Can you share with us your current work(s) in progress?

I have a new contract with Entangled Publishing for book that comes out in November of this year. The hero is a former Wimbledon champion. I just finished writing the 4 book proposal that comes after that book. All of them featuring a professional sports figure. I’m so excited about this series, so cross your fingers the proposal gets accepted.

8. What is in your To Read Pile that you are dying to start or upcoming release you can’t wait for?

I have fallen in love with the Indulgence category books at Entangled books. Every month, I instantly buy the new releases. Right now, I’m dying to read Deadly Secrets, Loving Lies by Cynthia Cooke
