Kris Cook on "Why Male/Male Paranormal?" + Contest

First I wanted to say thank you to Dawn for letting me chitchat on the blog. I really appreciate it. To show my appreciation I’m going to do a giveaway. You’ll have to make it to the bottom to hear what it is though. Now onto the chatting.

Why Male/Male Paranormal?

I got asked this question a few times over the past few weeks. I think it comes from the readers who have been with me from the beginning. I think the question is valid as the only GLBT book of mine published prior to Cupid’s Arrow was Three to Play. The other question that keeps surfacing that is the pair to this one is “Will you continue writing straight erotic romance fiction or will you only write male/male erotic romance?” This lets me know some are concerned about the new book and new books to come in the Love Ink series. Let me tackle both of these and give you some insight to why I’ve started Love Ink.

Cupid's ArrowAn M/M Erotic Paranormal Romance

Cupid’s Arrow

For Titus Love, matchmaking is much more than a hobby – it was the family business. Being the grandson of Cupid himself, Titus is obsessed with restoring his grandfather’s good work and leaves Olympus to secretly work his magic in Dallas’s hottest new tattoo studio, Love Ink.

Detective Derek Stone doesn’t believe in love. Betrayed by a former lover, Derek views the sentimental emotion as a weakness that almost destroyed him vowing never to give anyone that power over him again.

While investigating a string of grisly murders, Derek discovers one common thread – all of the victims were clients of Love Ink and its owner, Titus Love. But when Derek questions his gorgeous suspect, their passion ignites and Derek discovers that the world is bigger and darker than he ever knew.

Something evil has come to Dallas, and only a hard-boiled detective and the new god of love stand in its way

First, let me answer ‘why male/male.’
As many know, I was in a serious car accident in April. I’m still recovering from it, though, sans a slight limp, I am nearly back to normal for mobility. That said the accident changed my perspective on many things. I don’t stress about the small stuff like I did before. Well, not as much anyway. The accident also gave me pause to consider what I wanted to pursue in my life and my career. Don’t get me wrong; I love writing straight erotic romances. There’s one very straight Archangel that keeps needling me at night to get his story done. Still, I’ve been pushing my desire to write male/male romance to the side over the past several years. Even though I am a gay man I wasn’t confident in my ability to write it. Sounds strange? Probably, but true. I decided to take the leap and the Love Ink series was born. I’m crazy about mythology, especially Greek. It’s rich and fertile for more stories. Tattoos and demigods? What could be better?

Second, let me answer ‘will you continue writing straight erotic romance fiction’.
I will. I love erotic romance fiction. I work hard to learn the female fantasy. Truthfully, it’s my fantasy, too. Perhaps my feminine side is dominant when it comes to the heart. Sex for me has little meaning unless there is a connection beyond the physical. The connection is full of emotions and even doubt especially in the beginning, but isn’t that what makes it so rich? For me the journey of deepening that connection and casting aside the doubts to experience joy and fulfillment beyond reason is my goal - always. Sex has a place in my straight erotic romance stories but I hope it never is the only thing readers take away. When I write the last line of any of my books my eyes well up and I believe in the possibility of love. My hope always is the reader feels the same at the end of my books.

So there you have it. And since you’ve made it to the bottom of the post here is the prize. One commenter will get a $10 Amazon gift card courtesy of me. Make sure leave an email contact so that my assistant Brandy can get a hold of the winner.

Dream Big!

  5. I definitely like a story that is rich in emotions and that'swhat I look for in all stories, including erotic romances. The more emotional the more I'm likely to connect. Some of your influence include authors I really enjoy such as JR. Ward.
