Long Slow Tease ~ Just the way we LOVE Ann Mayburn

To begin this review let me say I am a huge, I mean HUGE Ann Mayburn fan! When I recieved this book for review I knew I had to share my love for her, so instead of reviewing the book myself and sqeeeeing all about it I decided to hand it over to Casey Lu.

Casey Lu enjoyes BDSM romance and is always looking for new authors so when I asked her is she had read Ann Mayburn yet and she said NO! I knew I had to remedy that QUICKLY! So here is a fantastic review of Still by Ann Mayburn.

 STILL by Ann Mayburn

Dr. Michelle Sapphire and Gunnery Sergeant Wyatt Callahan formed an unbreakable bond and an unacknowledged, forbidden attraction to each other while serving together in Afghanistan. Their lives are forever changed when a mortar attack grievously wounds Wyatt and Michelle brings him back from the brink of death. But when they both return to the civilian world, Michelle discovers that her rock-solid Marine is suffering from severe PTSD and may even be suicidal.

Wyatt Callahan fell hard for the aristocratic blonde doctor the moment he laid eyes on her. After reentering civilian life in his hometown near Austin, Texas, Wyatt is plagued by nightmares of the death and suffering he witnessed during the war. He’d love to reach out to Michelle, but — Michelle is a Dominatrix, and she has made it very clear to Wyatt she isn’t interested in a relationship with anyone who doesn’t accept her lifestyle. An Alpha male to the core, he can't imagine the appeal of being submissive. At the same time, the idea of serving Michelle, of being everything she wants and needs, rings true in his wounded soul.

Michelle has dark secrets of her own, and together with Wyatt she will have to battle her personal demons during their emotional journey of healing, redemption, and love.

Review~

What an introduction to Ann Mayburn’s work!! I absolutely found this book a fabulously delicious bunch of greatness!! I love that she did not gloss over the issues of PTSD, and truly showed what our military men and women have to deal with far too often.

Dr. Michelle Sapphire is none too happy to be woken up at three in the morning to go get retired Marine Gunnery Sergeant Wyatt Callahan out of the jail’s drunk tank. She can tell that he is using alcohol to deal with the effects of his PTSD, and she knows that she can help him if he is willing. The last time she saw him was at the funeral of his best friend, who had succumbed to his PTSD by committing suicide, and she had ended up driving him home due to his drinking. On the trip to his apartment she told him about her Domme side and told him she wanted him to be hers, so she told him to do research into BDSM and decide if that is something he could explore with her.

Wyatt knows he isn’t adjusting to being a civilian again very well. He sees that he is using drinking to mask some of his issues. With the death of his best friend and fellow Marine veteran he knows he needs help, and he is very tempted by Michelle’s offer. He just has a hard time forcing his self to pick up the phone and call her. He fights the fact that the idea of submitting to her turns him on. Being a truly alpha male that goes against all that he is, but a bigger part of him recognizes he needs the structure submitting will give him back.

There is so much that I loved about this book and the dynamic of them together as a couple. Michelle has wounds of her own that are not the physical ones. Can she truly open up to Wyatt and heal the pains of her past as well?? These two broken people help each other to pick up the pieces of their lives, and begin the journey to building a life together.

From this experience with this book I know I will be reading much more of Ann’s work. I was so wrapped up in the emotional minefield that is this story that I was unable to put it down! I laughed and cried with them. I can’t recommend this one enough! :)
