DARK DATES
Dark Dates (Cassandra Bick Chronicles 1)

BLURB: All Cassandra Bick wants is to be left to get on with doing her job. But when you’re a Sensitive whose business is running a dating agency for vampires, life is never going to be straightforward – especially when there’s a supernatural war brewing in London, a sexy new bloodsucker in town and your mysterious, homicidal and vampire hating ex-lover chooses this moment to reappear in your life…

Witty, sharp and entertaining, Dark Dates is a heady mix of vampires, witches and werewolves – with the occasional angel thrown in – and introduces Cassandra Bick, a likeable heroine destined to join the ranks of fantasy’s feistiest females.

Tell us a little about yourself:
Well, there’s not much to tell, really – my name is Cassandra Bick, I’m a slightly geeky, 20-something single girl, living with my cat – I know, what a cliché – and trying to run my business. So I’m pretty ordinary. OK, well, I’m also a Sensitive and my business is a dating agency that matches vampires with human donors, but other than that I’m pretty ordinary. If you don’t count the fact that my best friend is a witch and my ex-boyfriend is a hunter of all things supernatural, that is. But other than that, totally ordinary. Honest.

Wait, vampires exist – in London? And you provide them with victims?
Yes, long story short: vampires do exist, they don’t sparkle, and they don’t kill people anymore. But they do need to feed.  I just link adventurous humans who like their fun a little fangy with vampires who can oblige in return for a bit of the red stuff: no permanent damage allowed, no ‘victims’, just consensual adults doing what they want. Some people might disapprove – some of the attention we’ve been getting lately has illustrated that – but I think of it as providing a service.

You run a dating agency: how’s your own love life?
At the risk of sounding like a Facebook status, it’s complicated. I think of myself as single – and, frankly, it’s been a long time since I had evidence to the contrary – but then bloody Cain shows up and he’s all cool and sexy and dangerous and sexy and… wait, where was I? Um. Single. Yes. That’s right. I’m single.

That doesn’t sound very single.
Well, the problem is Cain tends to pop in and out of my life without warning, so he’s not what you’d call long-term boyfriend material. Oh and he’s a gun-toting, vampire-hating hunter who I suspect isn’t even human, so he’s not exactly enamoured of my new line of work.

Oh dear. Would you ever consider dating one of your clients?
I did actually date a vampire, when I was a lot younger – that was what put me onto this whole consensual feeding thing. But it didn’t end well; it’s hard to be involved with someone who isn’t interested in you from the neck down.

So you’re not attracted to vampires, then?
No, I just see them as clients. Although, there is Laclos... I mean, I don’t know how I feel about Laclos – surely anyone blushes when they’re in the presence of a smoking hot man who never manages to put a shirt on, right? That doesn’t mean that I fancy him or anything. Just because he’s pale and gorgeous and powerful and sexy and frequently naked… erm… What I meant to say was, no, my interest in vampires is strictly professional.

Can I sign up to be one of your clients?
Certainly. Just sign this confidentiality agreement and be willing to be searched for stakes at the door, and you’re welcome at one of Dark Dates events. Be warned, though, lately things have been getting a little crazy, you never know quite what might happen…
