Juniper Bell & Kelly Jamieson + Giveaway

Today we have Juniper Bell and Kelly Jamieson with us talking about their "Ivy League Men" from their new releases Beautiful Obsession and One Man Advantage from Ellora's Cave.  You will not want to miss these men, excerpts, or this great giveaway!! So read on and enjoy...

Juniper:

BEAUTIFUL OBSESSION takes place at a fictional Ivy League university, where a graduate student becomes obsessed with three mysterious students, and vice versa. Now personally, I find the combination of brains and brawn in man very alluring, but in case you need convincing, here are a few arguments for my case.

Exhibit 1: This is how I imagine Jack Cartwright, the grad student. He's trying to suppress his sexual side so he can finish his thesis, but the man's got needs, can't you tell?

Exhibit 2: Meet Rob, wrestling champion and Clair's longtime friend and protector. He saved her life when she was little, and they've stuck together ever since. He might look studious right now, but don't mess with him or his friends.

Exhibit 3: Luc. The rich kid. He's been their guardian angel ever since he helped Rob rescue Clair. But now things are changing. Someone else is about to take charge.

So there you have it -- three guys who make smarts look sexy.

Kelly:

I am so with you on that, Juniper! I totally agree that the combination of brains and brawn is super sexy, and as a matter of fact, the hero of ONE MAN ADVANTAGE attended an Ivy League school too! Logan played NCAA hockey for Dartmouth College, where he obtained a degree in economics. He’s also 6’3” and over 200 pounds of muscle. Apparently the heroine of the book, Nicole, also finds intelligence sexy, as you’ll see in the excerpt below! And in case you think this is just my wild imagination conjuring up such a smart, educated hockey player —here’s my inspiration:

Tanner Glass, who now plays for the Winnipeg Jets, was an honour student in high school, played NCAA hockey at Dartmouth College and has a degree in history. That’s him on the right, reading George Orwell J (Photo)

Here are a couple of excerpts from BEAUTIFUL OBSESSION and ONE MAN ADVANTAGE:

BEAUTIFUL OBSESSION
by Juniper Bell
Jack Cartwright has put his wild sexual side firmly in the past so he can focus on his graduate studies. All he wants is to finish his thesis. But the appearance of three mysterious students in a neighboring suite throws his careful plans into chaos. Especially when he catches the three of them together…in bed. Clare, Luc and Rob have a highly unusual relationship. Friends since childhood, the two boys rescued Clare from unimaginable horrors. They’ve been her protectors ever since, and something more. But Clare can’t stop thinking about the sexy, smoldering resident advisor down the hall, and what fierce urges might be hiding behind his controlled exterior.
Now Jack’s dark sexual needs threaten to derail his career as the irresistible threesome lures him into their secret erotic world. But when obsession takes hold, rules don’t stand a chance

 Excerpt~

First conversation

Adams House mailboxes.

“Mr. Cartwright?”

Jack’s head jerked up from his pile of mail. Clare stood a few feet from him. Her voice was soft and breathy, like a wooden flute being played in a forest. He smelled her—he’d come to recognize her scent even when she’d already left the room. It had an undertone of green apples with a whiff of chlorine. By now he’d learned that she swam. The thought of Clare in a swimming pool was almost too much for him. He’d spent agonizing minutes wondering whether she wore a bikini or a one-piece. Imagining her in the locker room…

“Yes? Clare?”

Her name felt intrusive on his tongue, too intimate. Embarrassing. As if she’d guess his perverted thoughts from the way he said her name.

“Mr. Barnes told me you grew up in this area.” She spoke with that same faint Louisiana accent and very carefully, as if afraid to get a word wrong.

“Yes, I grew up in South Boston.” A different world, but she probably knew that.

“Can you recommend a good watchmaker?”’

“A what?” He stared at her mouth as that little smile curled one corner.

“I need my watch repaired.” She opened her hand to reveal an old pocket watch, its silver patina chipped. The chain spilled through her fingers like water. He wanted to lick them.

“That’s beautiful.”

“It belonged to my grandfather. It deserves proper care.”

He loved the way she spoke, so precisely, carefully selecting each word. He’d heard she was studying poetry. “I agree. I don’t know of any repair shops offhand, but I can ask around.”

“I’d appreciate that very much.” She gave him the friendliest smile she’d shared thus far, along with a graceful nod. She turned as if to go, and suddenly he couldn’t stand to see that happen.

“Where are your friends?”

“My friends? Oh, Rob and Luc?” The corner of her lip quivered ironically. Fascinated, he realized he could read her moods in that one tiny portion of her anatomy. “They’re pretending to try out for crew. But really they just wanted to see what all the fuss is about. I suppose…”

“Yes?”

“I suppose you think we’re always together.”

“Frequently, at any rate. Students are usually advised to branch out, to get to know as many other students as possible.”

“Well.” She considered, tilting her head carefully. “I don’t care much for other students.” Her clear gray gaze slid toward his, catching for an electrifying instant of significance. Then she was gone.

She didn’t care for other students. Did that mean she cared for non-students? Did that mean she only cared for her two friends?

Jack went over every word in that conversation a hundred times before their next encounter.

Inane Scrawlings – September 28

My instincts tell me J’s fucked men before and would do it again. Sex practically oozes out the man’s pores. Does he have any idea what he does to me? The first time I ever spoke to him, at the mailboxes, I ran back to my room to masturbate. Except I didn’t even make it to my room. This sounds insane, but I ran into the laundry room and locked the door. I sat on a washing machine with my legs spread open. I still had my pocket watch, the one I’d pretended was broken. I wrapped the chain around my hand and drove it down my pants like a madwoman. With the chain pressed against my cunt and the washing machine vibrating under me, I thought about J—his big, hulking shoulders—black shadow on his jaw. The way his midnight-black eyes strip the clothes right off me—the swelling in his jeans—oh God. The chain bit into my clit—I needed that, the harshness, the pressure. I came so hard I bit my arm to keep from making too much noise.

Even so, I got odd looks from the kid waiting outside the door when I finally opened it.

ONE MAN ADVANTAGE:
By Kelly Jamieson

After her ex trashes her reputation in front of the media and it quickly goes viral, Nicole vows she’ll never get involved with another hockey player. Too bad her job with the Minneapolis Caribou puts her in contact with sexy hockey players on a daily basis, including the newly traded center, Logan Heller. Logan’s pretty sure Nicole is the perfect woman for him and he’s determined to have her—in and out of bed. Nicole is equally determined to never date another hockey player. But Logan has a one man advantage...he knows what she really wants.

Excerpt~

“So yeah, I’m used to snow,” he said, picking up the conversation again. “Where did you grow up? I guess Montreal mostly?”

“Yes. We lived there until I was sixteen and Dad got traded to New York. But I went back to Montreal to go to university.”

“You speak French?”

She laughed. “Of course. Have you heard my dad’s English?”

He grinned. “Yeah. But you don’t have an accent at all, you speak perfect English too.”

“Well, I grew up in a bilingual home. My mom’s American. My brother and I went to French schools, but we mostly spoke English at home. Well, my dad tried. And then of course we had to go to an English-speaking high school in New York.”

“What did you major in?”

“Communications. Hence the job in communications,” she pointed out.

“Of course. I majored in Economics.”

Her head whipped around to stare at him. “Economics? Seriously?”

He shot her a look, one corner of his mouth lifted in a crooked smile. “Don’t sound so shocked.”

“I’m not! Okay, I am.”

He laughed.

“Do you have a degree?” she asked.

“Yep, from Dartmouth College.”

“Oh! Did you play NCAA there?”

“I did.”

“I didn’t realize that.” A degree in economics. Whoa. Suddenly—weirdly—he was even more attractive.

“My brothers both got into the NHL through major junior hockey. Jase wasn’t much into school, so there was no way he was going to university. My parents practically killed themselves getting him to graduate from high school.”

“That’s good they did,” she said.

“Yeah. And Tag was smart―not that Jase isn’t,” he quickly added. “But he has ADD, so school was hard for him.”

She nodded. “Yeah. Good for him for graduating then. Um, turn right at those lights ahead.”

“Tag just wanted to play pro hockey as fast as he could,” Logan continued, doing a shoulder check to change lanes. “And they wanted him as fast as they could get him, so he was playing for Phoenix when he was eighteen.”

“That’s really young.”

“It is. But he was always mature, and he had the skills. He was ready. I wasn’t.”

She shifted in her seat a little to look at him. Câlisse, he looked good, his big hands easy on the steering wheel. In profile, the small bump on his nose was more evident. No doubt broken at some point in his hockey career. She wanted to know more about him. “No?”

“I mean, I wanted it. I just wasn’t as mature as Tag was at that age. I was bigger than him, though.” He grinned. “And I liked the idea of getting an education too. In case the hockey thing didn’t work out.”

“Was there ever any doubt about that?” With the talent in his family, it seemed crazy that he might have thought he might not make it as a pro hockey player.

He huffed a laugh. “You never know.”

“Was there a lot of pressure on you to make it?” she asked slowly, thinking again about those two older brothers in the NHL.

His face tightened, barely noticeably, but she caught it. Her interest was piqued even more. Not that she should be interested in him. “My parents never pushed it,” he said. “They tried to be encouraging. I mean, they were encouraging. But even so, yeah, I felt pressure.”

She nodded. “I guess I can relate to that,” she said slowly. “Sort of. My brother Julien was definitely a lot to live up to.” As were both her parents.

“He’s a good player.”

“He is.” She couldn’t deny that, and she loved her brother and was proud of him. “But all their focus was on him and his hockey career.”

He stopped as the light turned red and glanced at her. Their eyes met. “Yeah. I know the feeling,” he said quietly and the connection between them stretched out warm and palpable. She swallowed, unable to break eye contact with him.

  4. Oh yes indeed--brainy is VERY sexy, Kelly and Juniper and Dawn! Nothing like a man who's smart enough to learn what he doesn't know already about whatever topic it is he needs to research ;) Congrats on the new releases! Can't wait to add these to the TBR!

  5. I agree that brains+brawn=sexy, and I would add that I have also found men with brains and no brawn to be sexy. However, I have never found a brawny man with no brains to be sexy at all. I dated one in college and it was like opening up a beautifully wrapped birthday gift to find a pair of dirty tube socks inside. Ew!

  6. I have always been attracted to smart men. It helps if they have muscles too. My earliest crush was on Mr Spock after all. I don't think I could stand to be with a dumb guy. I want to be able to talk to him and even debate issues with him. The brain is a big part of sexual attraction. A man that challenges you will always be attractive.

  7. WOW! You had me with the first picture. Even without the pics yes men with brains are very sexy...it is even better when you combine it with some brawn!

When you think about it all the big alpha heros always have a lot of brains they just choose not to point it out but it takes those brains to get to end of whatever confrontation is in the story!

  10. I have my very own brainy guy, yeah those glasses were an attraction from the beginning. While 34 years later he may not be quite as brawny, he still has the brains, and wow is the sex still great. Love both these authors, can't wait to read the new books.

  15. Brawny men with brains are so much sexier than brawny men without brains. There's been a commercial on about a fitness center that has a brawny brainless guy trying to work or workout there and the brainy manager working him out the door and he doesn't even realize it! Give me a guy with brains any day! I love that commercial! Congrats on the new releases and thanks for the giveaways!

  16. Absolutely! I'm a sucker for brains, anyway. Brawn's good to look at, sure, but unless a guy can talk to me and make me laugh, then I get bored easily. If they've got both, then they're just yum!! :))
