Lawna Mackie Interview + GIVEAWAY

I met Ms. Lawna Mackie when at RT 2012 in Chicago this year. She just so happened to be sitting at the same table as me and my friends on Hollywood Night and so kindly took a picture of us and remembered to mail it to me too (thanks!) After receiving the pic I couldn’t help but ask her to be on my blog so I could find out more about her and her books. Being the sweetheart she is she agreed to let me interview her.

Hi Lawna thanks for taking the time to sit with me today I know that you are just getting back from your holiday vacation in Mexico and there is always a ton of stuff to do when you get back from vacation, so I appreciate you putting off the piles of laundry and bills to answer a few questions.

Thanks so much for having me on your blog Dawn! I totally enjoyed meeting you at RT.
Okay, I’ll dive into trying to answer your questions.

Q: What started you writing? Was it a person or was it just something that came naturally?

Truthfully, I’ve always enjoyed writing, but never thought I could be good at it. Some of my best friends were writers, journalists, and communicators. I was a closet writer, and never let them know I had a desire to write a novel. When I finished my first novel, ENCHANTMENT, the cat came out of the bag. My very good friend was also writing novels and truly she was my inspiration.

Available March 23, 2012 from  MuseItUp Publishing.
What not to do? Well, for starters, DON’T render yourself unconscious by falling out of your canoe while trying to grab onto a beaver dam. Secondly, don’t wake up in a world that outlaws strangers, and, above all, DON’T fall for a guy whose main job is to banish you from the world.
Meeka is searching for peace, a magical reprieve from the heartbreak of her past, perhaps even a dashing hero, and she finds it all – for a moment. The world of Enchantment she blunders into is certainly peaceful, until Meeka discovers her dormant magical abilities. Furthermore, there is a gorgeous knight in shining armor – Kerrigan – but he turns out to be a part-time dragon sworn to protect the intoxicating land of Enchantment, a duty that includes removing all foreigners, the fascinating Meeka included. To further complicate matters, sparks literally fly between Meeka and Kerrigan. An undeniable attraction continually forces them together in a riptide of unleashed passion, but evil forces are determined to destroy the dragon, take control of Meeka’s newfound powers, and use her as a weapon of mass destruction.

Q: How long have you been writing?
I’ve been writing novels for about five years, but I remember how much I loved writing essays and short stories while in elementary and high school.

Q: Describe to me your writing style (twitter style 144 characters).
I’m a panster through and through. Sometimes I have a dream and that spurs my thoughts into high gear.

WOW only 101 characters nice job! I'm impressed.

Q: What is your normal day like?
This is a tough question for me because I don’t have children. I’m amazed with people who do have children and find the time. I have four-legged children and I still struggle with time constraints! I admire people who do it all. I can’t express that enough. Basically, I’m up at 5:00 in the morning, I have coffee and breakfast with my hubby, then I write a bit before work. I try to write during my lunch break, and just after supper.

Q: What do you draw inspiration from? (Music, Art, Books, friends ?)
Definitely music, but I also gain inspiration from my dreams, which are truly incredible.

Released December 19, 2011 from Liquid Silver Books.
Raven knows no one will believe her. Giant tiger-like creatures did not just leap from the clouds, and invisible forces do not just save your life during Sahara Desert sandstorms. Impossible, they always said, scolding her at the age of twelve. Ten years later, Raven knows the impossible is possible, and finds herself tormented with many unanswered questions concerning her birth and her mother’s mysterious disappearance.
Perhaps falling in love with Nevar, an emotionless and bodiless Storm God isn’t a good idea, but the attraction they feel for one another is impossible to deny. Soon it becomes clear that he is the only one who can unravel her puzzling past and perhaps save her life. But an evil Sea Goddess knows exactly who Raven is, and even more importantly…what she is.

Q: What are some of your hobbies?
Well…I love to go camping. I love to swim, and it never matters what temperature the water is. Cold mountain lakes never bother me. I like to go fishing with my husband and family.

Cold? Oh Hell No not me I hate the cold! Too much of a California girl here :)

Q: Are you a big reader? Who are some of your favorites?
I wish I had more time to read! I do love Christine Feehan and Sherrilyn Kenyon.

Q: What is the big project you're working on now?
Big projects…well there always seem to be a few of those. My big project is a novel called the Golden Jackal, which is about an Egyptian Golden Jackal who is the heroine and a Romanian Wolf who is the hero. The heroine doesn’t know she’s a Jackal so they embark on a journey from Romania to Egypt. Right now I’m just finishing off a novel called Perfect Misfits, which is a romantic fantasy.

So answer me this...

What are some of your favorite hobbies?

 Released December 1, 2011 from banditcreekbooks.com
As far as twelve-year old Quinn is concerned Christmas has lost its magic. Since his father’s death life has lost its sparkle. His mom is now a widow struggling to put food on the table. Quinn is no help, and the mysterious illness afflicting him only makes things worse. Even Christmas, complete with decorated trees, ribbons and bows has no meaning…then along comes Jazira.
Jazira doesn’t know what happened to her former self, the eleven-year old little girl. She drowned, didn’t she, along with half the other folk of Bandit Creek in 1911? Somehow, she’s grown four furry legs complimented with a large wolf head and body. Scared and alone, she reaches out to Quinn and a strong bond is formed. Jazira learns Quinn, and his mother, are threatened by a wealthy powerful citizen of Bandit Creek. She is determined to protect her new family, no matter what.
Christmas Eve finds Quinn staring up at the adorned tree and muttering a quiet prayer. Will the Spirits of Christmas grant his wish, or will the evil surrounding Bandit Creek prevail once again?

  5. Thanks for the intro, Dawn and Lawna! I loved reading a bit about you and your stories, Lawna! How fabulous that you've always enjoyed writing :) And hats off to you for squeezing it in around work! (I agree with you about how amazing those folks who do it all are--I can never seem to fit everything into the day! I do have kids, but don't really work outside the home much; it's so much to juggle!) As for hobbies, aside from reading, I do enjoy all kinds of crafty stuff, and am finally starting to get back to some of it after putting much of it on hold when the kids were littler. Crocheting is what I find easiest, and there are so many cute amirugumi projects I want to try... if only there were a few more hours in the day ;p For that and the towering TBR ;)

Even made a couple blankets, but that was when I was young. Enjoyed your comments! Thanks so much! I'll also be sending you a copy of my book :-)
