Silk Road ~ TJ Michaels ~ Review by Lola

 On looking through my pile of books that need to be reviewed, Silk Road grabbed me immediately on glancing at the enticing cover—Beea-U-tiful!   Sexy angel...come to sinful mama!

Silk Road (Seals of Destiny Book 1) The first Descendant in millennia with the power to use an ancient artifact is being hunted. By the good, the bad…and the worst.

* * * * *

Every rogue longs for a second chance, right? Wrong. Larien, former angel of The Host is not looking for redemption. What he needs hasn’t been seen in millennia but he’ll search the ends of the Earth to find it – from the hills of San Francisco all the way to…the Silk Road.

Jayla Protegenu learned as a child to call her protectors to keep at bay the things that prowled the night. Now, as a woman grown, she never expected one of those protectors would be a Fallen angel - Larien. His job: to help Jayla find the mythical and mystical Seal of Solomon.

Even among those who created the very meaning of good and evil, nothing is black and white. Neither friends nor enemies are what they appear.

 REVIEW ~

On looking through my pile of books that need to be reviewed, Silk Road grabbed me immediately on glancing at the enticing cover—Beea-U-tiful!   Sexy angel...come to sinful mama!

Silk Road has it all...angels, demons and fey...OH-MY!  What a wonderful job T.J. Michaels has done with intertwining a tale about angels we know and love—and those we think we despise—with elements of mysticism and mythology.  Silk Road was a gripping and intriguing book that had me laughing out loud just as much as biting my knuckles. The twists and turns kept me in suspense and had my mind working overdrive on trying to figure out who’s good, who’s bad, and best of all...what the hell is going to happen?  I’m keeping this review short and sweet so as not to give anything away.

The fallen angel—former warrior—Larien has got his hands full when it comes to this little spitfire of a mortal woman, Jayla.  She is a descendant of Solomon and possesses a very valuable power...one highly sought after which puts her very life in danger. On the quest for the ancient artifact, the Seal of Solomon, her best friends Talan and Chel join forces with her and Larien.

Jayla is awesome.  She’s a strong woman who calls it like she sees it which leads to some seriously funny laugh-out-loud moments.  I absolutely loved her dominant and forward sexual behavior...she wants Larien and has no qualms about making it known.

Larien, on the other hand, holds back on acting out his sexual desires with her which really helped build the tension between the two. He’s not a “typical” angel which I found refreshing.  I loved his cussing, kick-ass attitude just as much as his caring and reluctant side.  His personal struggles were very believable which kept me turning pages to see how Jayla would help him overcome his hang-ups.

Talan and Chel were a hoot and I loved them to pieces.  I can’t wait to see which of these two (if either) Ms. Michaels is going to write about next.  I haven’t even peeked about upcoming novels in this series, so I have no clue. Though I’d rather leave it a surprise for now.

This book is very involved with a lot of layers to it.  At first I was confused by the complex caste of fallen angels, although once I decided to quit going back to re-read and commit to memory—to just let the story unfold—it became clearer and was a true pleasure to read.
