Lara Adrian ~ Heart of the Hunter ~ Review by Lola

Did you know Dawn has not read any of Lara Adrian’s titles?  Are you like Dawn...haven’t read her yet?  Let me tell you a bit about Ms. Adrian.  She’s a FANTASTIC story spinner—one of my go-to authors because every one of her books has swept me away immediately.

Heart of the Hunter (Dragon Chalice, #1)

BUY IT HERE: Amazon

Ariana of Clairmont would risk anything to save her kidnapped brother, a quest she knows is fraught with peril. Her only ally is Braedon le Chasseur, a formidable knight with a mysterious past, whose scarred face and brooding nature mask a soul filled with pain. Ariana fears this dangerous man and the secrets he strives to conceal—but Braedon’s touch is pure seduction, his kiss a potent lure that tempts her into a passion she is powerless to resist.

Once known as The Hunter, now haunted by a dark legacy he struggles to deny, Braedon lives in a world of shadow and isolation—until he is thrust together with an innocent beauty in need of his protection. Embarking on a journey that will lead them to a legendary treasure, Braedon will be forced to confront old enemies and the stunning secret of his true nature—or risk losing Ariana and the only happiness he has ever known.

Review ~

Until recently I had only read her Lara Adrian titles, though recently she tweeted about her Heart of the Hunter (Book #1 - Dragon Chalice series).  I had no clue she had written anything under the pen name Tina St. John and learned a bit of exciting news.  Here’s a small excerpt from a note about her indie reissues:  Starting with HEART OF THE HUNTER, the first in my Dragon Chalice paranormal medieval series, I am reissuing all seven of my historical romances (written under the name Tina St. John). If you like my Midnight Breed series, I think you'll find much to enjoy about the Dragon Chalice books in particular. Centered on a quest for a mythical cup forged of dark secrets and hidden powers, the Dragon Chalice series allowed me to infuse my dark medieval romances with the mystique of mythical kingdoms, dark magic and dangerous shapeshifters.

This book had two important qualities for me:  I love stories that involve a quest for a mystical object of great desire and it had the complexity I crave.

From the beginning I left my luggage on the dock, jumped on the boat and set off to help them free Kenrick (Ariana’s kidnapped brother).  I found out Ariana was holding back the fact that she had a satchel of important documents.  Braedon recognized these documents in the satchel and that’s when I got real excited...I just knew the rescue mission we’d set out on had just morphed into a quest as well.  I watched them butt heads and then learn to get along, and witnessed the spark of interest flicker and grow to a steady flame. Together, we hid in inns, escaped detection and rode horses until they were frothy with sweat, and raced the rushing tide before we were swept out to see as we set foot at Mont St. Michel where we were sure the chalice must be hidden. Obviously I’m exhausted from my quest and grow weary of its retelling...I suggest you pick up a copy and set out on your own.
