Grace Elliot ~ Hope's Betrayal

Sensuous Romance or Erotica?

Hello, and big thank you to Dawn for hosting me at Daydrmzzz Reviews! I couldn’t agree more about books and dreaming- for me a good read is in the escapism. I see Dawn's favourite genres are paranormal and erotic, and whilst I am a historical romance girl I'm sure we love our favourites for the same reason -  escaping into the world of an engrossing story.
As well as an avid reader, I'm a writer and my personal preference is for a sensuous, rather than erotic read. For me the emotional attachment between the characters is what makes a story great.  Which leads me to ask - do you read for the emotional involvement, or titillation of erotica -or both? Don’t get me wrong, I read erotica, but conclude that the books I like the most are those where the H/h have a growing relationship to each other.
For me it's all about sexual tension, about the chemistry between the characters, how they change and evolve as a result of meeting their partner. One of the many reasons I love historical romance, is that so many rules were placed on people in different eras. These social restrictions give the writer so much scope for naughtiness and compromising situations. Heavens! In the Regency, men were considered such dangerous and corrupting creatures that for a woman to be alone in a room with one, could ruin her reputation. So how much more scope for misunderstanding and tension when courtships were conducted in public, and to be alone could force someone into marriage?
My novels are set in the Regency, which was also a time of fabulous fashions, the woman wore next to nothing (underclothes were considered 'fast') and wafted around in gauzy silk gowns that left little to the imagination. And the men! When the main transport was either foot, horseback or carriage, most men were active and well toned - and then there was the fashion for stupendously tight buckskin breeches that showcased those wonderfully muscular thighs…you get the picture.
But returning to my theme, on a personal level, I prefer a novel with tension between the characters and I get so swept up in their story. That first kiss between two people who yearn for each other and have overcome obstacles to get there, is so intensely thrilling. And building to an intimate conclusion, I'm prepared to wait for the final pay off, rather than insist on the more immediate gratification of erotica.
In "Hope's Betrayal" we have two characters on different sides of the law. The ruthless Captain George Huntley is sent to stamp out smuggling and when he arrests a smuggler, and finds she is a woman, his troubles are just beginning. George finds himself attracted to this daring woman with sea-green eyes and yet to submit to that love would mean his career in ruins. And Hope, at last has met a man who equals her spirit, a man who she could lose her soul to, but to love that man means betraying her own kind….

Grace's writing has been described as:
“…perfectly written sexual tension through out.” Lou Graham’s book blog.
“Wonderful, yummy, sweet, sexy... oh the list could go on and on. L.O.V.E.D. IT! It had my heart thumping and hands sweating” TJ, Goodreads review.

Fallen Angel Review ~ Eden Bradley

Blurb~
Was she heaven-sent…or more heartbreak waiting to happen?

Haunted by a military mission that ended in personal tragedy, Declan Byrne still bears a soldier’s scars. As a park ranger on the secluded Mendocino coast, he guards his heart while standing ready for anything. Anything except a beautiful, ethereal woman with a mysterious past, falling from the cliffs to the rocks below.

Angel, as Declan decides to call her, has no memory of what happened. But as her body heals, disturbing dreams emerge. In Declan’s protective care, Angel feels safe to act on the undeniable passion between them, without the threats from old, unnameable demons. And, in time, she senses Declan needs her as desperately as she needs him. But when her past returns with a vengeance, Declan must decide just how much he’s willing to risk in order to keep the woman he loves safe.

Review~

This is a gripping story that had me flipping the pages as fast as I could read them. It's dark, gritty, intense and passionate. This is not a book that you will read and immediately know what's gonna happen or how it will end. Eden Bradley takes you on a twisted journey with these characters and leads you to places you never thought it'd go.

Declan Byrne is a broken man. He has been through some very trying times in his career and personal life with his father. He has isolated himself from everyone until the day a beautiful Angel falls at his feet. Once he sees her he feels a connection and she just might be the thing he needs.

Angel, a pure-innocent finds herself in a world she doesn't know; around people she doesn't know, but when she sees Declan she feels safe. She has been through hell and back but feels like he is her safety as well.

These two are a mess apart but the the issues they both have can be worked out together and they just might be able to rescue each other from more heartache and pain.

This is not your normal, sweet romance… Oh' no this is an Eden Bradley book, so be ready for strong erotic content that will curl your toes and keep you turning the page. Dark issues are addressed, they take you on a physical journey of two individuals. I very much enjoyed this journey, and would recommend it to those readers who want a book that isn't light & fluffy or predictable.

How Keith Brighouse got his story and characters

How I Got My Story And Characters

I was going to write a rather complex and intellectual article about creating a range of characters for my story The Peep Show. A sort of pseuds guide to character development  but after several aborted attempts it seemed sensible and wise to just to tell a story about how I found my characters because, the truth is, I didn’t create them, they existed and I only had to find them, or at least, stumble across them. They existed in the world ready-formed, waiting to be kidnapped by an unscrupulous story teller. The basis of the story is also usurped from life, and all I had left to do was muse over a drink and fill in the details, which was no cross to bear on my part. My two leading ladies were both of the nature any red-blooded male would love to contemplate.
I was instructing a group of recidivist offenders in an art group while working for the probation service.  It was the wisdom at the time that encouraging offenders to be creative would somehow rehabilitate them, though those of us at the sharp end were not as confident as the theorists. My experience of offenders was that they were already creative, but in a very subversive way and saw subverting the intention of the program they were on, as a form of sport.  The character who became Lucien in my story was in such a group and was determined to bring the subject of sex into every conversation, both because it was apparently the only thing he was interested in, and because sex as a subject was pretty much a no-go area because of the inevitable sexist content of such conversation and the politically correct nature of the probation service. It was pretty well nigh on impossible to make sex a taboo subject for the simple reason that once you banned the subject, it would raise its head through metaphor and innuendo.
It was while objecting to a conversation of a sexual nature, Lucien--I will refer to the real life character who became Lucien as Lucien--brought up the hypocrisy of the ‘bourgeois tyranny’, his term, that they (offenders) were subjected to. I made the mistake of asking him, what hypocrisy? He then proceeded to tell me why he was there, which was for a series of offences for keeping a disorderly house and living off immoral earnings, offences which were widely used to clamp down on the sex industry. Lucien told us about his brother’s peep show and a leading politician who frequented it. I was skeptical, not because I am naïve about politicians, but because I just couldn’t see this particular politician being so brazen as to frequent a peep show in what was more or less the centre of the West End of London. Still, Lucien insisted on telling the group his tale.
It was a while after I had stopped working for the probation service and I was in the West End looking for some secondhand art books down Charing Cross Road, I decided to take a walk down some a side street for no other reason than I fancied a stroll and wanted to see what there was to discover. Someone shouted my name, I looked around and saw no one and was about to carry on when I heard my name being shouted again. There in a nondescript doorway that you would struggle to find, even if you were looking for it, stood Lucien wearing a big sleazy grin, which was almost his permanent countenance. The doorway did have a small neon sign over it, but being in the day, it wasn’t luminous enough to attract attention. I walked over to greet Lucien and ask him how he was getting on. It was then he invited me inside and what I found became the foundation of my story The Peep Show.
The Peep Show: An Erotic Novella
Lucien led me through a claustrophobic sex shop that felt more 70s than end of the 90s, which was when this meeting took place. We went through some curtains at the back and along a corridor full of men spying through peep holes. One or two looked distinctly like they were surreptitiously masturbating. I did my best to ignore them but noticed a strong smell of semen. I followed Lucien through a door at the end of the corridor of cubicles and up a flight of stairs to a grubby office. He invited me to sit down and poured me a whiskey and was not just telling me about his brother’s business, which he managed but couldn’t resist bragging about his conquests he had had in that particular office. I moved the conversation onto the story he told about a leading politician (who he named) who frequented his establishment, which was only a brisk walk from Parliament. He boasted quite a few well known people were clients, but it was good business to allow them to remain anonymous.
It was then that the character who became Sharon came into the office. She was wearing a cheap Japanese type kimono revealing the shape of her full curves the garment was supposed to hide. She had a quick exchange with Lucien in her whinny East London accent and was about to leave when Lucien asked her to validate his story about the leading politician frequenting the place. She laughed and turned to me, “oh yes,” she said, “this was his second home, he couldn’t get enough but then, they’re all the same aren’t they (politicians).” She left us alone and I finished my drink with Lucien and said my goodbyes. He asked me to come again and I told him I would, knowing I wouldn’t. However, as I walked back into the daylight, The Peep Show was already formulating in my head but I was aware there was a character missing, a character who would be the catalyst.

The missing character would eventually be a young art student who I got to know when I had a studio in East London and used to frequent a pub that was popular with artists by London Fields. Late in the evening there was the usual gang of us having a drink and chatting about this and that when I noticed this new face in the group. She was dating a friend who was more than twice her age and he appeared to be a somewhat paternalistic figure in their relationship. Like the Olivia character in The Peep Show, she was from an affluent middle-class background and had been praised to the hilt by her parents and teachers, only to find out she couldn’t hack art college. She just wasn’t creative enough and couldn’t cope with the competition and criticism of her peers and the indifference of the lecturers.
It was quite a few years before I would put these characters into a story, even though in my head, there is a whole range of stories they inhabit, Lucien and Sharon in particular. The peep show seemed to be their world, the place where they were comfortable and the dramas of their small lives play out. It is a world in which they are, if not happy prisoners, then prisoners who are contented with their lot, which was the impression I got from my impromptu visit to the peep show. It is now a world that inhabits my head and where Lucien and Sharon really do exist and play out a whole series of dramas which my imagination ignites.

*****
Blurb:

London's backstreet "peep show" acts as a crossroads for four fascinating people: Lucien, the misogynistic and perverse owner who takes advantage of his sexy employees every chance he can get; gorgeous, young Olivia, who performs in the peep show as a way of rebelling against her strict upbringing; Sharon, the curvy and lusty career stripper; and George, a politician at the end of his game who seeks a diversion at the peep show from his miserable marriage and career, and comes out with more than he bargained for. The story unfolds as the characters clash together and come apart, and come together again. In the end, for each of them, sex is both the problem and the solution.

Chapter 1~

Saving sunni
by Kasi Alexander and Reggie Alexander

Chapter 1
The Fringe Element was on a little side street right off Colorado Boulevard in Denver. I stood on the sidewalk and looked at it for a minute before I went in. Three mannequins stood in the front window. One was dressed in a short, sexy nurse’s outfit complete with a stethoscope and thigh-high stockings that ended just under the white miniskirt. The next one was in a latex bodysuit with a gas mask covering the face. The third was dressed like a dominatrix, in a leather bustier with a flogger hanging over one shoulder and shiny black boots that extended halfway up the thigh. I briefly pictured wearing that to my job interview and laughed a little as I opened the door and went in.
My owner, Sir Rune, had said I needed to get a real job, although he had also said it could be a fun one, and when my sister slave sage had heard through the grapevine that The Fringe Element, a local kink/Goth/punk store, was looking for some help, we all thought it might be a good option for me. I called the owner, Geri, and we set up a time for me to come in and meet her.
When I told the girl at the register why I was there, she silently pointed to a woman bustling around the back of the store. I guessed Geri was her late fifties, but trying her best to look like she was a carefree teenager. Her hair was dyed a mixture of colors, mostly black but with thick purple, red, and blue stripes that sort of matched the various articles of clothing that clung, draped, or floated in the vicinity of her body. I could hear her high, birdlike voice and the jingle of her jewelry as she flitted around giving instructions to the two boys who were hanging a display high up on the back wall. It looked like some kind of vampire stuff. sage would just sigh and shake her head at that. I smiled. She preferred real life to fantasy, and the whole vampire thing was completely beyond her.
The girl called to Geri, who seemed to ignore us. I leaned against the counter and watched for a few minutes as she alternately scolded and flirted with the boys, who paid almost no attention to her. She abruptly turned and almost skipped toward me, smiling and waving her hands as if she were about to take off and fly around the building. I had a feeling I might like her. Sir and sage were always so serious; this would be a really nice change of pace. If she gives me the job.
But there didn’t seem to be too much doubt of that after her first words.
“Oh, deary,” she crooned, nearly kissing me in her effort to scrutinize my face over her John Lennon glasses. “Please, please tell me you’re Jessie Chambers. You’re the first actual human to apply for work!”
I laughed. “Yes, I’m Jessie, but please call me sunni. That’s my scene name.” I wanted to say it was my slave name, since that’s what it really was, but not everyone appreciated the Master/slave dynamic, and I wasn’t sure what kind of kink Geri was into. From the looks of her it could have been just about anything.
She nodded absently, picking up a flyer from the counter and scanning it before slamming it back down. She whirled around to head for what I thought must be her office.
“Well, come this way, then, sunni,” she called over her shoulder. I resisted the strong temptation to swing my arms out and march in an imitation of her, not knowing if there was a mirror where she might catch a glimpse of me and get offended. I would be constantly tempted to make fun of her, although in a friendly way, and wondered how much she would catch if I did. I shot the girl a smile, but she was staring down at a magazine on the counter, not paying attention.
I followed Geri into her office and sat down in the chair she pointed out. She fluttered around her desk for a minute, then plopped down and leaned forward to stare into my face some more. I laid my resume in front of her, the one Sir and sage and I had spent hours agonizing over, trying to make it sound like I had some practical work experience. She didn’t even glance at it.
“So,” she said intently, “Which side are you on?”
I’m sure my face went completely blank. I couldn’t imagine what she was talking about, although I could hear Darth Vader’s voice in my head growling, “Come to the dark side, Luke.”
My confusion must have shown, because she said impatiently, “Edward or Jacob?”
It still took me a minute, but then it dawned on me. She was actually starting my job interview by talking about vampires versus werewolves. I pictured Sir’s face when I told him and nearly burst out laughing.
“I… I don’t know,” I finally said, trying to sound as serious as possible. “I think there are benefits to both.”
She nodded, as if we were discussing something very philosophical and important. “What benefits?”
“Um, well, I like how wild and free werewolves are.” This was a really bizarre conversation, even for me. “And I must confess I do like doggie style.” Geri giggled and nodded vigorously. “But the vampires can make you immortal, and you don’t have to worry about your weight anymore. Although I have to say I would miss ice cream.”
She laughed approvingly. “I can see you’re the kind who looks at all sides of an issue. That’s not a bad thing. Tell me more about yourself.”
I looked down at the resume, trying to get my head back into a professional space, but she pushed it aside dramatically.
“I don’t care about your work history,” she stated. “A monkey could learn the job. What I want to know is how you will fit in with us here. My staff is like a little family, and I don’t want to hire people who wouldn’t be comfortable with us. Tell me who you are. In fact”—she pushed a piece of paper at me—“write down your birth date and place, and I’ll run a chart for you later. That will give me a good idea of your personality traits. But I also want to know about your life experiences.”
I blinked at her. I had spent the last few days practicing “interviewing skills,” but none of them had included an interpretation of my astrological chart. I fought down the giggle that was rising in my throat and tried to reorganize my thoughts as I obediently wrote down the information. While I did that she talked about the other employees, when they had come to her, and how much she loved each and every one of them.
“Well, I’m not sure what you want to know.” She paused and I hastily went on before she could start talking again. “I got married right out of high school but it didn’t end well. I never went to college, but I’ve tried lots of different kinds of jobs. I guess I haven’t found the right thing yet. I want something that will be fun and give me a chance to meet lots of people. I’m very social.” I ran out of things to say and was happy when she jumped in.
“What are your spiritual beliefs and political leanings?”
I stopped myself from pointing out that I was pretty sure that was an illegal question to ask in a job interview and instead said, “I don’t really believe in organized religion and I’m not particularly political. I’m curious about paganism but haven’t ever been involved in it.”
She nodded again. “Are you kinky, poly, or gay? I assume you’re at least kinky, since you have a scene name.”
It occurred to me that my next job interview, wherever it was, was going to seem awfully tame after this. “I’m not gay,” I said, “although I do consider myself heteroflexible. I am kinky and poly.”
“Tell me about it.”
“Well…” I wasn’t used to discussing my lifestyle with strangers, but I knew she was at least familiar with the scene, if not an actual part of it, so I took a deep breath and plunged in. “I am in a Master/slave household. My master is Sir Rune, and I am one of two slaves.”
Geri nodded. “I think I’ve heard of him. I haven’t been very active in the community for a while, but I do still have a lot of contacts, and of course a lot of them shop here. What kind of play do you do?”
I wasn’t sure if the conversation was getting too personal or not, but I decided to go with it for the moment. She probably had a good reason to ask.
“Oh, general stuff,” I said. “Wax play, fire play, knife play, flogging, bondage, that kind of thing. I’ve been getting into puppy play, too.”
She raised her eyebrows. “Puppy play? I’m surprised. That’s mostly boys, isn’t it?”
I shrugged. “Maybe, but I like it.”
“Why? What is it about puppy play that you like?”

“I’m not sure,” I admitted, leaning forward in my chair. “I think it’s the fact that I don’t feel any pressure to be human, or talk, or even think, really, when I’m a puppy. It’s like letting out a whole other side of myself that needs to play. It’s very relaxing for me.”
“How did you get into the scene?” She scribbled some notes on a thick legal pad, but I couldn’t tell if she was writing comments on what I was saying or if her mind had gone off in a different direction and she was making a grocery list or something.
“After I left my husband, I took a break from relationships for a while. I toyed with the idea of dating only women.” I hoped if she was a lesbian she wouldn’t be offended. “I didn’t find anybody I felt compatible with, but one girl I dated introduced me to the scene, and it felt natural to me. We didn’t go out very long, but she told me about Fetlife, and I set up a profile, met Sir, and decided I wanted to move to Denver to make a new start.”
She didn’t say anything, looking totally absorbed in what she was writing. I wondered if she had even been listening to me. When she looked up, I couldn’t tell by her expression if she liked me or was going to call me a freak and tell me to leave.
“Tell me about the other slave in your household,” she said, as if that was a standard interview question.
“sage? She’s pretty cool.” I tried desperately to think how to describe her. “We grew up in the same small town in Michigan. She’s been living here for a long time, but she joined Sir and me about a year ago. We’re…really different, but we get along pretty well.”
“Different how?” Geri persisted. I wondered if she was going to ask about our sexual relationship.
“She’s more serious than I am,” I said, trying not to make it sound like an insult. “She and Sir are both really smart. I am more…” I didn’t know exactly what I was trying to say.
“Virgo?” she prompted, glancing down at my birth date.
I nodded, shrugging.
“I guess so. That’s probably why I like being a puppy; I can kind of get away from all of the…thinking.” I stopped, suddenly embarrassed.
She smiled and I felt my face get hot, wondering how much of an idiot I sounded like, and if she was laughing at me. Instead, she said, “If this were your store, what kinds of things would you sell?”
It took me completely by surprise. Why would she be asking for business advice from someone who had just admitted she wasn’t very smart?
But she was waiting for an answer, so I glanced out the window in her door that showed the sales floor and took a deep breath. “I like what you do sell,” I told her, “but if I was going to add things, I think I would bring in more fetish stuff, like collars and harnesses. And maybe costumes too, like puppy ears, tails…things like that.”
I shrugged a little lamely, but she nodded and made more notes. Neither of us said anything for a minute or two, then she stood up suddenly, still looking down at the mess of papers on her desk. I stood up, too. Should I offer to shake hands or just walk out? It had been a really odd interview, and she hadn’t even given any indication of what kind of person she was looking for. I had the impression I was just too freaky, and she was rethinking her comment about me being the first human to apply.
I was just about to turn and open the door when she said suddenly, “When can you start?”
I froze, not sure I’d heard her right. I debated asking her to repeat herself, but I thought that would make me seem like an idiot. Hope bubbled up inside me but I kept my face neutral in case she had muttered something completely different than I’d thought.
“How about tomorrow?” she asked, staring intently at the papers as if expecting them to sprout fangs and bite her. She seemed to be unaware that she hadn’t formally offered me a job, and I hadn’t accepted. We hadn’t talked about salary, or duties, or hours, or anything, and she was asking if I could start tomorrow?
“I guess so,” I said, and hastily added, “although I’ll have to ask Sir if it’s okay.”
She nodded, as if her employees always had to check with their masters before agreeing to their hours. “I’ll try to work with your schedule preferences as much as possible, if you can work with the 8

others on theirs,” she said in the most businesslike tone I’d heard her use. She rooted through several stacks of papers before finding a bright pink one that she handed to me. It was titled “Working at The Fringe Element.”
“Here,” she said. “I never remember all the details to tell people. If you have any questions after reading this, we can discuss them tomorrow when you’re filling out your forms. Welcome to our family.” And then, surprising me even further, she jumped up and raced around the desk. Throwing her arms around me, she hugged me ferociously.
“I feel like we’re going to be best friends,” she said as she let go of me, opened the door and swooped out of the room.
I stuck my head out and called after her, “What time tomorrow?”
“Ten, if you can make it,” she said, disappearing into a door in the back. “Or whatever time your sir can spare you.”
I shook my head as I gathered up my instruction sheet and purse and wandered toward the front door, absently touching the clothing on display as I went through the store. This was going to be an interesting experience.

Tori St. Claire Virtual Book Tour!

I'm happy to be apart of Tori St. Claire's Virtual Book Tour. Have you read Tori St. Claire? I was just recently recommended her books and I was very happy about it and recommend them as well!

Here's a little info about Tori...

National Bestselling author Tori St. Claire grew up writing. Hobby quickly turned into passion, and when she discovered the world of romance as a teen, poems and short stories gave way to full length novels with sexy heroes and heroines waiting to be swept off their feet. She wrote her first romance novel at seventeen.
While that manuscript gathered dust-bunnies beneath the bed, she went on to establish herself as a contemporary, historical, and paranormal author under the pen name, Claire Ashgrove. Her writing, however, skirted a fine line between hot and steamy, and motivated by authors she admired, she pushed her boundaries and made the leap into erotica, using the darker side of human nature and on-the-edge suspense to drive grittier, sexier, stories.
Her erotic romantic suspense novels are searingly sensual experiences that unite passion with true emotion, and the all-consuming tie that binds -- love.

Good morning, everyone!  It’s great to be here at Daydreaming – thanks for hosting me today.

When I asked our revered hostess for some topic suggestions, she posed a couple questions to me, and there were two I felt matched rather well:  “Why did I choose erotic romance, and why did I choose the CIA?”

I wanted something more than the mainstream romances I’ve been writing as Claire Ashgrove.  Something grittier and darker.  Something that pushes boundaries to a degree.  It was a challenge to push myself beyond a comfortable place of ‘mainstream’.

Because I am a serious plotter, I began to consider how I could achieve ‘darker’ and ‘grittier’ in terms of plot, not in terms of sexual acts on the pages.  What I felt achieved that was first suspense, and then secondly, an edgy storyline with hard action.  Heroes and heroines who play as hard as they live day to day.  That naturally threw me into thinking about covert, special ops groups.

I particularly wanted to work with morally ambiguous characters, those you can’t quite define as ‘good’ or ‘evil’.  And as I began to incorporate human trafficking into the series idea, it struck me that my covert group must be on the side of good, even if their immediate actions aren’t necessarily defined as such.  Which pretty much translated to me as men and women working in national security, engaged in activities that none of us would really like to think about.  Hence the CIA.

I also particularly like the question, “What sort of goings on don’t we know about that relates to government involvement and national security?”  A query that led me down the path of agents being involved in what we might consider the unthinkable.  I’m sure it happens, and I’m sure, after duty, they are human with human emotions.

All this led me to erotic romance and what you see in my January 3rd release, Lie to Me, the second in my Black Opal series.

Alexei, my hero, has been in the proverbial trenches, working in a position that makes his soul shrivel to think about what he’s done.  He’s very hardened about life, and he lives on the edge, aware that any moment might be his last.  Pleasure for him must be equally intense.  It also must be his vulnerability, because nothing else is going to get through the shell he’s erected around himself.  So in between all the action, all the suspense, all the dark and gritty circumstances, there’s a softness, a weakness if you will, that adds a bit of humanity to him, and Sasha, the woman he can’t forget.

Hopefully that softness makes you fall in love with him.  I know he holds a very special place in my heart, and Sasha I admire for her absolute strength.  When she should hate, she finds it within herself to love.

But he finds Sasha reluctant to leave her Sheik, the only true friend she’s ever known. Only Alexei can’t give her a choice.

A woman of deception…

With their yearning roused by intrigue, Alexei and Sasha can no longer resist and spend night after night in forbidden pleasure. She has a past darker than she could ever admit or that Alexei could ever forgive. And it is about to explode into her life once more. Now, as the lies they tell themselves—and each other—pull them deeper into a perilous desire, what began as simple passion becomes a love certain to destroy them and end the lives of countless innocents.

Excerpt ~

He swallowed down the sound, and his kiss took on more languor, aggressive demands ebbing into a gentle play until his mouth left hers altogether and he lifted his head. His lustful gaze scorched into her. The hard fall of his breath stirred the fine blonde hairs on her forehead. He pressed his cheek to hers, grazed her sensitive skin with the coarse stubble along his jaw.

The pleasant friction sent another bout of delightful shivers surging through Sasha’s body. She dropped one hand to his waist, plucked his shirt free, and slipped her fingers beneath to explore his warm flesh.

“Ah, Sasha,” he murmured against her temple. “Tell me you don’t hate me.”

Her hand stilled at the base of his spine. Hate him. How could she explain that feeling had never once struck? If she confessed to the truth, she’d look weak, sound like a fool. She should hate him. And yet . . . she didn’t. After everything, even after all he’d done to destroy her life, she could not hate Alexei. Turning her head, she met his gaze. “Alexei, I—”

He closed his eyes, but not before he could shutter away a flash of anguish in those green depths. “Lie to me, princess. I need to believe.”

It was a plea he hadn’t needed to utter. She lifted up into him and caught his lips with hers. “I don’t hate you,” she whispered against his mouth.

A low snarl rumbled in the back of his throat a second before his mouth crashed into hers and claimed her savagely. His hands speared into her hair, holding her head in place, imprisoning her to the fierceness of his desperate kiss. She met the stroke of his tongue eagerly, tugged on the hem of his shirt, pushing it up, exposing his abdomen, equally desperate to feel the warmth of his skin against hers.

When that moment of blissful contact came, Sasha let out a plaintive mewl. Blessed torture. Perfect.

Nowhere near enough. She hooked an ankle around his calf and levered her hips into his, stroking herself against his hardened cock.

Alexei tore his mouth away with effort. “Easy, princess,” he rasped. Bracing his hands on both sides of her shoulders, he lifted his upper body away from hers. The faintest hint of a smile touched the corners of his mouth. “Don’t ruin me for the race. I’m already halfway to the finish.” The faint smile disappeared as he lowered his head and grazed his teeth along the delicate shell of her ear. “I want to be inside you when I come,” he whispered. The tip of his tongue flicked against her earlobe. “I want you to come around me. I need that. Can you give it to me, princess?”
