Review – Shayla’s Story – Beverly Preston

I fell in love with both Shayla and John in the first book of the Clemmins/Matthews series, No More Wasted Time. Trust me when I say this book was not a letdown, in fact, it was the exact opposite and well worth the wait. I was drawn into Shayla’s dilemma immediately. I loved the journey I took with them as their relationship blossomed and as she faced making her life-altering decision.

Shay is a no nonsense woman, completely grounded and in control, though she’s blindsided by her current boyfriend’s marital proposal. The trip to Greece for her uncle’s upcoming wedding to Tess is the perfect escape she needs, giving her the time to think things through. But how clearly can she really think when she’s faced with a hunk of a man well beyond his years in maturity and sexy as all get-out? He’s the perfect fitting piece to the puzzle that is her life. The buildup to the HEA kept me turning pages. This is one of those books that you can’t wait to see how things turn out, yet never want to finish because it’s just that good.

You can easily read this without reading the first in the series, as Ms. Preston fills in the gaps masterfully, but I highly suggest you read No More Wasted Time first if you haven’t already, as it’s a truly wonderful story as well.

Beware: This book demands attention, calls to you once you set it down... Laundry and dishes will stack up and you may have a few nights of take-out dinner because everything else in life becomes less important while you’re sucked into Shayla and John’s world.

Blurb~

Grace Love is lousy with men. She can spot a match for someone else a mile away, and her balls-on instincts are why her matchmaking business is thriving, but finding her own Prince Charming? The only guy who makes her sixth sense tingle is her playboy best friend, Trick, and no way is she risking their friendship, no matter how hot she knows the sex will be.

SWAT officer Trick Matthews is a patient guy, but Grace’s inability to see what’s right in front of her is grinding on his last nerve. Yeah, he blew his shot at breaking out of the friend zone when he tamped down the urge to lick her from head to toe the day they met, but he’s got a plan that’ll change her mind. Incognito at Salem's hottest Halloween party, he’ll show her exactly how good they could be…and that he’s the man for her.

Review~

Trick or treat? I’ll take Trick, for sure!

Who doesn’t love a story about best friends who’ve pined for each other secretly? If that’s one of your favorite tropes, then this book is for you.

Patrick “Trick” Matthews, is Grace’s neighbor and friend. He’s a sexy member of the local SWAT team and experiences no lull in the hanky-panky department—women have been streaming in and out of his house for years—until lately. His sights are now set and Grace is in the crosshairs. The upcoming Halloween party is the perfect chance for him to show Grace they’re meant for other. But there’s a flaw in his plan...

Here’s the irony... Grace’s love life is nonexistent, yet she’s an owner/operator of a matchmaking business. She and her friend Serena must go to this Halloween party in order to land an important client, one who can help skyrocket their business, Love Will Find a Way, to success. At the party, she runs into the mysterious “Cat Man” and even though she lacks a bit of self-confidence, she throws caution to the wind and enjoys every nip, lick and thrust this stranger has to offer.

Enter Trick’s flaw—When, if ever, is the best time to tell her he is Cat Man? Trickery gets trickier (say that three times real fast) in this cute story. It’s a definite page-turner, drawing you in because you have to know how Trick is going to get himself out of this mess with Grace—all the while I bet you’ll be rooting for him, hoping Grace will be able to forgive him.

Dirty Trick is a super cute story full of sexiness and witty banter. Grace is loveable, Trick is undeniably sexy, and Serena... Well, let’s just say she’s a real kick in the pants and hopefully gets her own story sometime soon!

Beverly Preston ~ No More Wasted Time ~ Review

Today I am excited to be reviewing Beverly Preston's book No More Wasted Time. I came across this book on Twitter as a free download from Amazon and quickly nabbed it. Then, coincidentally, I stopped by an author signing at the Henderson Public Library (Green Valley branch in Henderson, Nevada).

Prior to going in to the event I noticed the signage stating Beverly would be there and became very excited that I would be able to meet her. Sadly, once in, I found out she couldn't make it, but I did receive an email from her a few days later thanking me for stopping by. This was such a sweet gesture I had to reciprocate and what better way to do it than post my review.

No More Wasted Time

Life isn’t about tomorrow ~ Life is about today
After losing her husband to a sudden heart attack, Tess Mathews escapes to Bora Bora to lay her husband and sorrow to rest. What she doesn’t expect is a new beginning.
Tom Clemmins is an A-list actor whose life revolves around work and an onslaught of women. He travels to Bora Bora for a much-needed break. Tom has a few ideas of how he’ll enjoy his vacation, but love isn’t one of them. Until he sees Tess.
Reserving a private shark-feeding excursion to scatter her husband’s ashes into the lagoon, Tess is furious when Mr. Hollywood bribes his way onto the boat, leaving her no other choice but to share the boat ride.
Tess is torn between tremendous guilt and zealous lust when their boat ride turns into a week full of romance and desire neither thought imaginable. Utterly smitten with a woman for the first time in his life, Tom casts his commitment phobia aside and whisks Tess off to Malibu where he introduces her as his “girlfriend” on the red carpet.
As the paparazzi besiege, can Tess survive the media blitz that ensues in order to find her second chance at love?

Review~

Beverly Preston did an excellent job in taking me on this little vacation.  I loved the setting.  Hello Bora Bora, here I come!  (Well, not really… I’ll remain broke until my teens grow up and move on, but it’s nice to imagine.)

Spending time with Tom ignites a spark in Tess that she forgot existed.  Yes… She is sexy, seductive, desirable.  Even though Tom’s famous and has been photographed with many gorgeous women, he has never committed his love to just one.  And despite the playboy persona, Tom surprised Tess (and me) by his down-to-earth ways, gentility, thoughtfulness, extravagant surprises and persistent adoration.    I loved the plot, loved the characters, and especially loved the author’s voice.  The greatest impact on me was when Tess decided to let go…just go with it…enjoy the time she could with Tom before the vacation came to an end.  Go Tess, you tigress!  And Tom?  Tom was a dream (*sigh*).  If I was single and this man stepped across my path… Let’s just leave it at  y’all would be feeling the reverberating rumble from my own roarin’ tigress within!

Witnessing their realizations that they should seize the moment, love and live to the fullest was touching to say the least.  So, ladies (and gentlemen) quit lollygagging and grab yourself a copy of No More Wasted Time by Beverly Preston if you’re ready for a thought evoking, sensual, heart-warming romance.

Warning—Under eye concealer recommended with purchase of this book—it’ll keep you up waaay past bedtime!

Bernadette Marie ~ Cart Before The Horse ~ Review

Cart Before the Horse

Release date: September 30, 2011
Length: 249 Pages
BUY IT HERE: Amazon, B&N

Sometimes happily ever after doesn't start with "first comes love."

Gabriel Maguire thought he'd buried his past until the night he met Holly, only to lose the woman he cared about, again.

Holly Jacobs has always put the cart before the horse. A prodigy who shot to stardom in textile design, she never knew a normal life—and there's nothing she longs for more than to be normal.

Pregnant before she even knows the name of her baby's father, Holly has put the cart miles ahead of the horse this time. But when she and Gabe meet for the second time, they decide to have their baby together. Holly finally begins to accept her unique way of doing everything backward, but Gabe's very normality drives her up the walls. Then his tragic past rears up; pain and loss threaten to destroy forever the fragile bond that has blossomed between him and Holly.

Sometimes the only way to get where you need to be is to put the cart before the horse.

Review ~

Have you ever come across a book that you started reading and just couldn’t manage to put down? … Wanted to zip through the book like a speed-reader, but didn’t want the story to end?  That’s exactly what happened for me with Cart Before the Horse by Bernadette Marie.  I’ve definitely found a new (to me) author whose books will be on auto-buy status.  Her writing style is beautiful; a true pleasure to read.  Her characters are well-developed, very relatable, funny and compassionate.  I could go on and on, but am more anxious for you to pick up this story and dive in like I did.

Prodigal Holly is a no-nonsense, talented, professional woman working as a textile designer who ends up pregnant after a one night stand with Gabriel Maguire.   Two months go by without seeing him until she seeks him out to plop this bit of news on his lap.  Gabe’s character was oftentimes heart melting.  His past trauma could cause him to react either way (accepting/denying) in response to Holly’s news of being pregnant.  While his reaction may seem to good to be true, I was looking for a sweet romance and got exactly what I wanted out of this story.   I enjoyed seeing them develop throughout the story, overcoming their individual fears and hang-ups.

Bernadette Marie definitely accomplished writing a feel-good romance with an HEA, which I thoroughly enjoyed and hope you will too.  I found her writing style to be very clear with an easy to follow rhythm and engaging dialogue.

Dee Carney ~ Brush Strokes ~ Review

Brush Strokes

Author : Dee Carney
Publisher: Black Dawn Publisher
Release Date: May 25, 2012

BUY IT HERE: Amazon, B&N

Tanya spends hours at a time painting renditions of the masculine—and very nude—glory that is Joe, her gorgeous blue-eyed model. The things an artist has to suffer for her craft. When he offers to help her learn how to improve her work, simple lessons in touching and learning his body, she’s willing to suffer that much more…for the sake of her craft, of course.

When tragedy strikes, her career is left dangling by a thin thread. The secret she’s harbored—that she’s been unable to finish her artwork—is exposed. Now she has little more than twenty-four hours to not only create the best piece of her life, but also finish it in time to be shown or lose everything she’s tried to build.

What began as erotic lessons in art becomes a study in love and perseverance that Joe will never let her forget

Review ~

Dee Carney is definitely a go-to author when you want to read something you know you’re going to enjoy.   When given the opportunity to review her upcoming release, Brush Strokes, the answer was an emphatic YES!  This is a perfect story for a few hours of floating in the pool, sitting on the beach or just kicking up your feet in your favorite reading nook.  This 78-page, fast-paced story had just what I was looking for… Drama, romance, humor, and sheets-are-smoking sex.
I enjoyed the tale of Tanya, an artist that still has room to improve upon her skills, and her male model Joe, who is more than willing to be the tutor in this lesson.   Joe is just what Tanya needs when a deadline is looming and tragedy strikes.  He’s easy to fall in love with not only for Tanya, but the reader as well. His sincerity, compassion and ability to teach made me want to take up art and explore the ultimate sense besides the basic five we refer to in everyday life; that’s right, he goes beyond just seeing, hearing, touching, smelling and tasting… In fact, I will now officially refer to the “sixth” sense (ESP) as sexing!  Yep, I said sexing.

My friend Dennie - LoLa Loves Books

I want to introduce you all to a friend of mine that I've know for ... well let just say a very long time :) Her name is Dennie (LoLa Loves Books). Dennie has always been a reader and when I told her about 3 years ago that I had started reading she gave me a few suggestion and ever sent me my first JR Ward book. For months we shipped books back and forth via postal mail.
Then mom asked for a Kindle for her 50 th birthday. Once I saw the Kindle and what it did I called her immediately, that was 2 years ago this August. Dennie being the ever so studious person she is, hopped online and started researching them. A week later I got a call from her telling me she had one in her hands (Bitch), I didn't even have one yet!
Anyway we started to call each other and search online for books that might be good. I finally got my Kindle for Christmas and once it was in my hands, it was on.
Dennie and I would get together online (Dennie lives far...far..away from me) or the phone and discuss our current reads and tell each other what we needed to get. I introduced Dennie to Erotic reads and she introduced me to Paranormal Romance.
Can you guess what the very first book I downloaded onto my Kindle was? It was the Fabulous RG Alexander's Regina in the Sun, it just so happened to be a free read that week. Once I read that I was a goner. I grabbed everything I could find by her and then went onto her "if you like this author try theses" file and quickly built my arsenal of Smut :)
Dennie and I make a perfect pair she suggests my Paranormal Romances and I suggest her Smut, Contemporary, and every now and then some YA. Recently I have been trying to get Dennie to browse the romance community with me and I think I may have sucked her in.
I got her to do her first contest this year with Moira Rogers, and guess what the bitch won!! She called me a few weeks ago squealing and said she got the best goodies: books, e-books, book plates, book markers, pens, and all sort of other goodies. So I told her now that she's won she needs to start doing some reviews for my blog with those wins. Dennie has agreed to stop by every now and then and do a review when she has time. So when work permits and she has down time she will stop by and give us a review.

Dennie (Lola Loves Books)
Very busy mom of two teenagers -1 Boy 16 years old , and 1 - girl 14 yrs old. She works from home as a medical transcriptionist for a very demanding company. Dennie likes relaxing pool side with her Kindle, kids, hubby, and animals. She reads about 5-8 books a month and is always looking for new authors. If you have any suggestions, let her know.
